Alan Jones Has Turned Down A

Alan Jones has turned down a Christmas party invitation from media heir Lachlan Murdoch just a month after being ousted from Sky News Australia's TV line-up.

The broadcaster, 80, accused the network of 'cancelling' his conservative views and going 'woke' after they scrapped his weekday show in November.

Murdoch, the co-chairman of Sky's parent company News Corp, and his wife Sarah are understood to have invited Jones to the annual end-of-year party at their luxurious six-bedroom home in Bellevue Hill in Sydney's east.

Media gurus including Sky boss Paul Whittaker and News Corp Australasia executive chairman Michael Miller are typically among the festive bash's high-powered guests.

But sources with knowledge of the party's planning confirmed to Daily Mail Australia Jones had declined the invitation.

The revelation comes just a day before Jones is expected to make a major career announcement on Friday.

Jones is understood to be holding a press conference at Sydney's Hilton Hotel to reveal his next move.

The 80-year-old is also being encouraged by ex-Prime Minister Tony Abbott to run for the federal seat of Warringah on Sydney's Northern Beaches.

He could run as a 'Liberal-backed independent' to draw on the support of his 'radio army', a senior party source told News Corp at the weekend.

The right-wing media icon - who has been on the airwaves since 1985 - has also reportedly been offered other broadcast and digital roles.

Subscribers to his new alanjones.com.au website are promised they will be first to find out if Jones rejoins Australia's news landscape in a regular news commentary role.

Nightly ratings for his former Sky News television timeslot have fallen off a cliff since his departure.

One week after Jones's departure, just 36,000 viewers tuned into Sky News' 8pm time slot for Inside the News with Rita Panahi - barely a third of the 95,000 viewers Jones attracted at the same time a week before.

A media insider told Daily Mail Australia: 'The Flash offer was an insult - Flash has 46 likes on Facebook compared to Alan's 156,000.'
