Ivan Toney has been removed from FIFA 23 in EA Sports' latest squad update. 

The Brentford Striker was banned from all football activity by the Football Association for eight months after pleading guilty to 232 of the 262 charges brought against him. 

It comes after the FA published written reasons for the eight-month ban on Friday, in an extraordinary document, that reveals the organisation had initially sought to apply a minimum 12-month ban due the extent of the breaches. 

The forward had bet on his own club to lose 13 times, but had his punishment reduced to 11 months following his guilty plea.

It was then cut to eight months after an independent commission heard evidence from a psychiatrist that he is a 'gambling addict'.

After the news broke yesterday, the 27-year-old : 'I'll speak soon with no filter.'

The betting offences spanned between February 2017 and January 2021 when he was on the books at Newcastle Peterborough and Brentford.

He also spent time on loan at Scunthorpe United and Wigan during that period. 

The Englishman, who earned his first senior cap for Gareth Southgate's side during their 2-0 Euro 2024 Qualifier against Ukraine in March, was also fined £50,000 by the governing body for the offences. 

While Toney admitted to making 232 bets during that time, the FA said: 'There were 13 bets on Mr Toney's own team to lose in 7 different matches between 22 August 2017 and 3 March 2018.

'Mr Toney did not play in any of those matches where he placed bets against his loan club as he was not in the match squad or against his parent club as he was on loan.

'Of the 13 bets 11 were against Newcastle whilst Mr Toney was on loan at another club.

The other 2 bets related to a game between Wigan v Aston Villa whilst the player was on loan at Wigan but he was not part of the squad.'

Sixteen bets were made on his own team to win in 15 different games, 11 of which he played in. Meawhile, 126 bets were also made on games in competitions his club were in at the time, with 29 of those bets involving the club he was playing for. 

Panel chair David Casement KC wrote: ‘The present case is not one of match-fixing.

If it was, the charges would have been pursued under different provisions.

‘There is no evidence that Mr Toney did or was even in a position to influence his own team to lose when he placed bets against them winning — he was not in the squad or eligible to play at the time… (however) the reason for using third parties and their betting accounts was to conceal football betting from the FA in case there was ever an investigation.'

The sanctions relate to breaches of the FA's rule E8 which prohibit players from betting on games, slot gacor hari ini while also sharing information or knowledge for the purpose of gambling.

The ruling is set to exclude Toney from training until September 17 2023.

But evidence given by psychiatrist Dr Philip Hopley, which says that the 27-year-old was suffering from a gambling addiction, has appeared to reduce the initial length of the ban, with Toney now theoretically able to return to action on January 17 after being found guilty on May 17. 

It appears EA Sports have now also removed the striker from the video game FIFA 23 with fans posting screen shots online showing his absence from the Brentford squad within the game. 

In response to yesterday's publication, some football fans took to social media to criticise the Brentford striker, with some calling him a 'disgrace'. 

But the Bees have vowed to support their striker releasing a statement yesterday saying that they now 'consider the matter to be closed.'

'The club will now be doing everything possible to provide support to Ivan and his family to deal with the issues raised in this case.

Conversations regarding this and all matters relating to the case will remain confidential in order to protect the player and his family.

'We consider this matter closed and look forward to welcoming Ivan back to training in September and seeing him representing Brentford in the Premier League in January.' 

Speaking ahead of the side's final game of the season against Manchester City on Sunday, Thomas Frank urged to review its relationship with gambling, while also suggesting that Toney could go into schools to talk more about his background

'He is an example for all in the football world to learn from,' said Frank ahead of Brentford's final game of the season, at home against champions Manchester City on Sunday.

'There is no doubt for me that the first four months he could be involved in football he should be forced to go to 100 schools telling about his background and football and everything.'

He added, speaking on football's relationship with gambling: 'There is definitely an issue out there that we need to work on.'

'We've known for years that if people can gamble on whatever, there are some who can manage it and some who can't.

And with the time and money young footballers have there is an extra awareness.

'Education is key and the authorities have to look into that massively. There have been other cases before but every time there is another case we need to remind ourselves about what we can do about it and see what we can do.

'For me, in the perfect world, we don't have gambling adverts but they will find a way to come in anywhere else.'
