Children can be cruel, particularly when it comes to anything that makes a classmate unusual or different. 

So spare a thought for the children of porn stars, sex workers and nude models, who had to deal with comments and teasing from their peers about their parents' jobs.

One man whose mother was an 'old-school' model for men's magazines said he often encounters misconceptions about what she was like, from being a drug user to having abusive boyfriends. 

Another joked that because of his father's profession people had high expectations over what his penis might look like, and said a lot of women had been 'left disappointed'.  

A woman even revealed how her boyfriend went to school with the children of a 'well-known actress' who had a sex tape.

She said: 'Some boys from the school at one point ended up holding the two kids down and forced them to watch their mom's sex tape.' 

Meanwhile a man from the US reflected on his experience and explained that he never knew what his mother did until he was a teenager - when his siblings revealed it to him after getting tired of waiting for him to figure it out.

'It definitely messed with me,' he explained. 'I was pretty embarrassed not figuring it out sooner. At my sister's baby shower one of my mom's co-workers and her daughter were there.

'The daughter asked me how I coped with what our Moms did, and I was so confused. At the time I thought she was volunteering at the police station as some sort of social worker. 

'She started out of high school when she got into modelling. Then lingerie modelling. There were some photo albums in my mom's room that were pretty spicy. My brother's friends found them once... that's a different trauma, lol.

'I have a jaded view on sex work because of my Mom. If it's really okay, why did she have to lie about it most of my life? I feel like I never really knew her.'  

Another man described how his mother being a prostitute left him living in fear of other kids finding out, something which he says scared him away from porn.

He explained that he suspected that she may have also done porn at some point, but never had it confirmed. 

'It was bad enough when they found out that she was a prostitute,' he said. 'If they would have actual video evidence to confront me with, I don't think I would have made it.

'The only way I was able to cope with it as it was, was to just acknowledge that she was a prostitute and not get worked up when other kids would talk about what they did with her last night.' 

Another spoke of how someone he knew had found his mother in porn videos: 'She has multiple videos. With a guy who is not his dad. All from within the last 2-3 years.

'So this kid is in a conundrum for all KINDS of reasons. Can't wait to see how it plays out.' 

One man made light of his childhood with a porn star dad: 'People wouldn't shut up about how big my dad's monster dong is. I disappointed a lot of girls.'

Another described his upbringing as 'not that memorable' after learning that his mother did 'old-school playboy type stuff', and debunked stereotypes about parents in the sex work industry.

He said: 'I was shocked when I learned about it but since I never really knew it as a kid it didn't affect me all that much.

'Since everyone always asks: No, there weren't abusive boyfriends all the time. She didn't really date, but one bf [boyfriend] was nice and fairly normal. They broke up for the usual incompatibility reasons, not because she was in porn.

'She was not a drug addict. She was just struggling as a when my dad died and had to do what she could. No, I'm not embarrassed. Most everyone I tell thinks it's cool then I have to explain childhood was normal, she was a good mom, she wasn't a drug addict, etc.'

Another man said his mother wasn't a pornstar but worked as a nude model and was also a single parent.

'This was her only secure job, but she always worked hard so that we have everything we need,' he said. 

'She is an excellent, loving, caring mom. Always made sure that I go to the best school, get the best food, always bought me good clothes, and for a single parent she did a terrific job.'
