Hollywood star Ashley Judd's new TV series, Missing, will be launched in India four days before it starts airing in the US.

This is the first time an American soap will air in India before it hits the US small screen.

Missing, which stars Sean Bean, Cliff Curtis and Laura Donnelly along with Judd, will be aired in India March 11 onwards on Star One, while it premieres in the U.S.
on March 15.

The ABC-produced show will be a trendsetter of sorts, considering most foreign shows premiere on Indian television after the completion of at least one season.

'Missing is one of our biggest series this season and it launches in India four days before the US.

'This is a first of sorts and should set a benchmark,' said Saurabh Yagnik, general manager and senior vice-president (English channels), Star India.

A reason cited for the launch of the show so soon in India is that several websites, including YouTube, are known to upload latest episodes of foreign serials no sooner they are aired in the U.S.
and this in turn affects subsequent viewership in India.

Judd, 43, is popular in India for spreading HIV awareness and also for her docu-drama India's Hidden Plague.

The actress, a socio-political activist who has campaigned for President Barack Obama, was in India in 2007 to shoot the documentary dealing with the menace of AIDS in the country.

She hit the headlines when she appeared for the film's India premiere in Mumbai donning a bindi.

Judd returned to India in 2009 on an HIV awareness campaign.

She met sex workers in Kamathipura and famously posed for shutterbugs in a sari as well.

Last year, Steven Spielberg's 3D blockbuster, The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn, released in India six weeks before its release in America.

Reports also suggest that Skyfall, the new James Bond flick starring Daniel Craig, could release in India along with UK on October 26, a fortnight ahead of its American release on November 9.
