President Donald Trump surrounded himself with some all-star talent while signing legislation that would overhaul music licensing practices - and received thanks for trying to intervene to help pop icon Whitney Houston.

The Beach Boys' Mike Love, who joined Trump at the White House, lauded the president at the bill signing Thursday and referenced the anecdote about Houston, who struggled with addiction during her life and career.

'Thank you President Trump.

Thank you so much for supporting music. Historically, I remember you tried your best to get Whitney Houston in some kind of shape,' the singer told the president.

'Yeah. I remember being in Mara-a-Lago with this guy right here.
He had Ron Perlman come down. He tried, your best to help Whitney. And she's not the only one you benefited and tried.
