The aim of this study was to investigate the safety and efficacy of Tui Na as treatment for spasticity in the muscles of stroke patients. Design: This cross-sectional study examined the effects of Tui Na on muscle spasticity in stroke survivors. A sample of fourteen stroke survivors with healthy neurological functions were randomly divided into two groups. At post stroke, they received either Tui Na (nontraditional treatment) or regular medical therapy paired with physiotherapy for 4 months. There was a significant effect of Tui Na on mean improvement in the mean disability score (MDS) but not on improvement in mean muscle function or muscular function at the end of the follow up.
