id="mod_6963197">I have read too many blogs where people have spent millions of pesos to build sub-standard house that ends up needing expensive maintenance. In my work, I see people with their hearts and budgets broken as they attempt to renovate or build a house. Quite often my advice comes post-disaster. So it is with this experience and after a lot of research that I started to build my own house in the Philippines five years ago.

I kept the floor plan simple: three bedrooms, one bathroom, a lounge/family room, and a large eat-in kitchen with verandahs surrounding the entire house. The total area was 140 square metres.


I built the house on a 100mm concrete slab with tied steel and concrete post-and-beam construction.

The walls are rendered, 100mm-filled concrete blocks tied to the slab with steel and horizontal beam. This part of the construction was cost- and labour-intensive, but it will for itself with years of maintenance-free living.

The roof is corrugated steel on a steel truss welded and tied to the slab with steel through concrete blocks.

Material cost was 310,000 pesos.

Labour cost of 80,000 pesos.

Construction took about eight weeks.

The total cost of this part of the construction is about 400,000 pesos.

This post is misleading. The cost is low because it only accounted the structural cost of the building. Finishing, electrical, plumbing and sanitary items are not included in his estimates. These items will drive up the cost of the building . A house is not complete without those items. Don't be fooled.

I wonder why there is no windows, nor tiles or kitchen - bathroom expences included in this.

I would like your advice on a house my wife is building for her family in Numancia, my and my wife live in the UK but we have come back and have been paying money non stop for the project, I believe it's a complete farse.

Anyway the land is owned already so they made plans for simple up and down house, 70sqm, up to now they have some beams up and still filling the floor they are now asking for another 80,000 for 10mm kabilya, which translates to 'stirrups' or re-bars', the funny part is they only require 30 and by searching the net etc and your blog I have found out that they only cost peanuts, can somebody assist me in a true cost if I forward them the apparent floor plans which I have managed to save to my e-mail, we are back to the UK on sunday so could really do with some assistant even at a price. Hello Everyone, I have read many of the comments and it looks like many people are in need of estimates. If you dont have time to help all these people I would be happy to help. I am an American and a contractor living here in Bohol. I have built several houses and nine unit 3 story apt. building here in Bohol . I have many good references from people who I have worked for, my prices are very affordable and fair and I don't mind giving free estimates. Most importantly when I start a job I finish on time without asking for more money. I have been building houses for over 30 years and here I can either build with hollow block or western style with metal studs,sheet rock,(gyproc) fiberglass insulated walls etc. They have all these materials right in Bohol.
