Airbus has said it will have no other choice but to halt the costly A380 programme if Dubai's Emirates airline does not place another order.

The European aerospace giant's sales director, John Leahy, told a news conference on Monday that it will stop making the superjumbo if it can't strike a long-term deal with the airline for a steady supply of the planes.

He said the Dubai-based airline is 'the only one who has the ability' to commit to a minimum of six planes a year for a minimum of eight to 10 years, which Airbus needs to make the program viable.
