While a lot of new movies hit Amazon Prime Video at the beginning of this month, it's pretty slim pickings for new content this week and into the end of June. Last week, 2019's well-received Pinocchio arrived, a good primer before the next reimagining of the classic character from Guillermo del Toro, planned for release this year.
Hopefully you'll find something appealing among the other early June arrivals, including Revolutionary Road, starring Kate Winslet, and 50/50, Chicken Run and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. The Vast of Night is a curious indie sci-fi flick from debut director Andrew Patterson that plays with narrative in clever ways. Long, sweeping shots carry us after two young radio workers who investigate an audio frequency they think could be traced to aliens. The distinctive 1950s New Mexico setting, and characters delivering monologues with the smooth intonations of those on radio, all build an eerie atmosphere with satisfying payoff.
