A world-famous Seattle Labrador, who was known for riding the bus from her home to the dog park - and back again - all by herself, has died from cancer. 

Eclipse died at the age of 10 on Friday morning in her sleep, just days after her owner announced to her fans that her vet had found cancerous tumors. 

The friendly dog gained popularity in 2015 when she rode the bus all by herself because her owner Jeff Young had taken too long to finish his cigarette. 

'We get separated. She gets on the bus without me, and I catch up with her at the dog park,' Young told. 

But instead of getting lost, Eclipse traveled exactly where she wanted to go, having done the route many times previously, before coming back home again safely.  

Eclipse would get on the bus near her house on 3rd Avenue West and West Mercer Street and go 'three or four stops' to the park, where she would stay a few hours and then go back home. 

The dog would travel on the bus so much, the King County Metro gave her a permanent bus pass, which was equipped to her collar.

The black lab-mastiff mix was often found roaming the bus aisles on the D-line and sitting in the seats like a human. The canine would receive ample attention from fellow riders who delighted in their fellow commuter.

'All the bus drivers know her. She sits here just like a person does,' Tiona Rainwater, a commuter, told KOMO in 2015. 'She makes everybody happy. How could you not love this thing?' 

Many fans hopped onto Eclipse's Facebook page, sharing their condolences. 

The King County Metro also wrote a tribute to the dog.

'We are so sorry to hear of Eclipse's passing. She was a Seattle icon. The entire Metro team sends our love, she will be missed.' 

Linda Macklin Osburn wrote: 'Thank you for sharing her with us for all these years. Her adventures entertained us, kept us smiling. Through the ups and downs of the last 3 years, Eclipse brought such joy to our lives. 

'She was and is a very special dog.'

Another fan, Heather McTammany wrote: 'I'm so sorry. Thank you for sharing this special bus-riding dog with us for many years. Ride free, sweet Eclipse!' 

Jodi Whitney wrote: 'My heart just stopped when I read that…. My deepest condolences to you. She was a sweet, special girl and she leaves a bit of her light here with us who'll remember her. Sending you hug.'
